The summer months have not slowed down business in the event industry, with several companies signing new contracts and renewing existing ones to kick off the sunny season. The 8th China International Tourism Commodities Fair (CITCF) was closed on 27th May 2016 at the Yiwu International Expo Centre. The four-day fair featured 1,305 enterprises from 27 countries and regions. The event covered some 50,000 m2 – a slight increase compared with last year. In the first quarter of 2016, Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 191 MICE events were held, which is down by 20 events year-on-year. The total number of participants and attendees also decreased – falling by 50% to 124,960. This significant drop was largely attributed to the shifting of four exhibitions from Q1 to Q2. There were 187 meetings and conferences held in the first quarter in total, which represents a drop of 7.0% year-on-year. The total number of participants fell to just under 15,500.
