First Phase Expansion of Adelaide Convention Centre Complete
Phase one expansion of the Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) was recently completed with the opening of the new West Building. The West Building contains the Panorama Ballroom which can cater for up to 600 in a dinner set-up and 1,000 for meetings or conferences. The official launch of the West Building will take place in March 2015.
According to the ACC, another new addition, the Riverbank meeting rooms, was also completed with its first event being held on 8th January 2015. In total, the redevelopment has already signed up 600 conferences, events and seminars, including 30 events which are expected to host more than 1,000 delegates each.
ACC’s chief executive Alec Gilbert, said, “The phased handover will see us take possession of the central and southern parts of the West Building in the first two months of next year. Work on the East Building, the second stage of the redevelopment, which replaces the existing Plenary Building (home of the original Centre in 1987) is already underway. The multi-purpose, state-of-the-art facility will have plenary capacity of up to 3,500 seats. This stage is scheduled for completion in mid-2017.”
