dmg :: events Switches Global Petroleum Show to Annual Format

June 11, 2013

For more than 45 years, dmg :: events’ massive Global Petroleum Show has been held biennially in Calgary, but now, citing attendee and exhibitor demands, it will switch to an annual format.

“This is an important evolution for the industry, for Canada and for Calgary," said Wes Scott, executive vice president of dmg :: events ( Canada ).

He added, “Since 1968, Global Petroleum Show has been a major platform for international and local markets to conduct business face-to-face. The annualization of Global Petroleum Show offers more opportunities to connect the industry and explore the latest developments and innovations facing the global sector."

The 2012 show broke records, with 63,000 attendees from 100 countries and 2,000 exhibiting companies in the oil and gas industry showcasing the latest technologies, products and services.

Market research indicated that 75 percent of the attendees and exhibitors polled would attend an annual show, according to company officials.

Here are some of the benefits cited for the show going annual:

  • The ability to showcase rapidly advancing technology on an "as it happens" basis; consistently providing attendees with the latest developments on market research and technology.
  • The opportunity for increased market share and the chance for exhibitors to get in front of customers on a more regular basis.
  • Enhanced opportunity for attendees to do business with emerging markets, such as Latin America and China , which move at a quick pace, and for which staying ahead of the demand for resources is imperative.

As a result of the show’s annualization, dmg :: events' Gas & Oil Expo, which was scheduled on off years from the Global Petroleum Show, will no longer be held.

The Global Petroleum Show has a tremendous impact on the local Calgary community of approximately $69.4 million CAD, according to SENTIS Market Research.

"For the past forty-five years, Global Petroleum Show has helped bring the world to Alberta," said Cal Dallas, minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations.

He added, "I am so pleased that due to its overwhelming success, the show has decided to become an annual event and I know it will cultivate even more strategic partnerships and business opportunities for Alberta companies."

Next year’s show will be held June 10-12 in Calgary.
