After surviving tough economic times in the European Union, the recent biennial Labelexpo Europe 2013 show scored record-breaking attendance numbers, as well as increases in exhibitors and showfloor size, compared with the 2011 event. This year’s show, owned by U.K.-based Tarsus Group, was held Sept. 24-27, covering seven halls at Brussels Expo in Belgium and attracting 31,795 attendees, up 11 percent, compared with 2011. Just days before the official ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the grand opening of Cleveland’s Global Center for Health Innovation, venue management company SMG has been recommended for not only that venue’s contract, but also the one for the adjacent Cleveland Convention Center. Thirty-year trade show industry veteran Brian Casey has been chosen by the Center for Exhibition Industry Research’s board of directors as the new president and CEO for the organization. Casey was identified as the best candidate after an extensive search process that was initiated after long-time head of CEIR, Doug Ducate, announced he was stepping down from the role. In response to customer feedback, Advanstar Communications’ Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo will move next year from its long-time home in Indianapolis to Chicago’s McCormick Place for a three-year commitment.
