The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre continues to dominate in the Asia/Pacific region, with a total of 1,180 events, including115 exhibitions and 30 conferences held there in FY 2012/2013.
During the same time period, seven organizers launched new events at the venue, as well as seven of the exhibitions were held at HKCEC for the first time. Those seven first-time shows included a wide range of industries, such as real estate, bakery, diving and resort, sports and interior design.

Messe Berlin (Singapore), organizer of ITB Asia, ‘The Trade Show for the Asian Travel Market’, has announced a strategic three-year partnership with the Marina Bay Sands, starting in 2014.
The next three editions of ITB Asia will take place at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre Oct. 29-31, 2014; Oct. 21-23, 2015; and Oct. 19-21, 2016.

Pharma EXPO, set to launch in November in Chicago, continues to draw support from the industry, with Italian Ipack-Ima Spa, which produces Pharmintech, signing on for as a partner.
Pharma EXPO is produced by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, and the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering and will be collocated with PMMI’s PACK EXPO Nov. 2-5 at McCormick Place.

From Aug. 31-Sept. 4, Amsterdam RAI played host to the largest medical conference in Europe - European Society of Cardiology Congress 2013 - with 30,000 participants, speakers and representatives from more than 150 countries.

What is likely good news for trade shows at Chicago’s McCormick Place, a 1,200-room hotel is on tap to open in 2016 next to the center, with Marriot International recently named as the operator.
The hotel will be operated under the Marriott Marquis brand, the only one with this brand in the city of Chicago, according to Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority officials.

After 40 years with J. Spargo & Associates, John W. Spargo will step down from the CEO post and Susan Bracken, president and COO, will step in, effective Sept. 23.
Spargo founded the company in 1973 that now employs 160 full-time professionals.He will retain his chair position of the company’s board of directors.
The change in leadership was part of what the company called a “carefully crafted strategic plan” that was adopted by the board.

At the recent Center for Exhibition Industry Research Foundation Predict conference in New York City, David Audrain, current chair of the Society of Independent Show Organizers, stood up at the end of the event and made a surprise announcement that SISO would be making a $100,000 donation to the CEIR Foundation during the next five years.
