American Academy of Pediatrics Will Launch Healthy Children Conference & Expo

September 8, 2013

Building off the success of its popular Web site, HealthyChildren.org, the American Academy of Pediatrics will launch the Healthy Children Conference & Expo March 8-9 in Rosemont.

The new event will be a live educational event for parents, featuring sessions on children’s nutrition, safety, mental health and common health issues like allergies and obesity.

“The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes that families want the most up-to-date and expert advice about their children’s health,” said pediatrician Jennifer Shu, MD, FAAP, spokesperson for the AAP.

She added, “This event offers the kind of high-quality information parents have come to expect from HealthyChildren.org, and offers it in a live setting where parents can interact with experts in nutrition, mental health, parenting, and children’s health.”

Attendees will have access to experts in a range of health and medical specialties, published authors, product giveaways and samples, as well as family entertainment in more than 150 family-friendly, interactive exhibits.

The show will be produced by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the largest medical organization dedicated to the health of children, and is anticipated to draw more than 5,000 families, according to show organizers.

There will be four pavilions dedicated to the following topics:

  • Healthy Living – Information on children’s nutrition, fitness, oral health and emotional wellness
  • Safety and Prevention –  Tips to keep children safe at home, on the road and at play, and advice on immunizations
  • Family life – Information on family dynamics, parenting, and managing your family’s health;
  • Health Issues – The latest advice on common health conditions facing children today, including allergies, learning disabilities, obesity, eating disorders and obesity

At the Healthy Living Pavilion, which will be supported by Mead Johnson Nutrition, families will find nutrition and fitness information as well as demonstrations that encourage families to ask questions and learn about helping children handle stress, eating for good health, choosing a sports program, sleep issues and mental health, among other topics.

In the adjacent Healthy Living Theater, families can attend presentations by pediatricians and other experts on a range of children’s health issues.

In addition, at the nearby Healthy Living “Ask the Experts” area, parents will have the opportunity to consult face-to-face with doctors and nutritional experts.
