Turning a major spotlight onto the value of meetings, the International Association of Exhibitions and Events will launch of the first-ever Exhibitions Day. PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, has moved PACK EXPO East 2015 to Feb. 16–18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, citing the need to meet exhibitor demand. The show originally was scheduled to launch Feb. 2-4. “We expected PACK EXPO East to generate a lot of excitement from exhibitors, but the demand has gone beyond what we hoped for,” said Jim Pittas, vice president of trade shows, PMMI. Las Vegas boasts that events that come to town often see substantial attendance upticks, and this year’s Society of Independent Show Organizers’ CEO Summit, held March 30-April 1 at the Four Seasons Hotel, was no exception. Each year, the U.S. Travel Association and the American Society of Association Executives sponsor separate fly-ins to Washington, D.C., during which hundreds of travel and association professionals meet face-to-face with legislators on Capitol Hill to discuss issues important to them. Attendees spend an estimated $44.8 billion and exhibitors spend an estimated $24.5 billion at events, according research compiled by the Center for Exhibition Industry Research. Six months after taking over management of the NACE/CARS event from Hanley Wood Exhibitions, show officials with Houston-based business-to-business media company, Stone Fort Group, said they expect the show to be double in size when it runs July 13-Aug. 2 at the Cobo Center in Detroit.
