BOI Fair to Boost Post-flood Thailand
The third edition of BOI Fair opened at the Impact Exhibition and Convention Centre under the theme is running under the banner “Going Green for the Future.” The fair is organised by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) and supported by UBM Asia (Thailand), who was hired as a special consultant, to rebuild investor confidence after last year’s devastating flood.
The BOI Fair reportedly covers close to 300,000 square meters in total area, which includes open-air activities and 84 pavilions showcasing high technology and innovative exhibits from local and multinational companies. Indoor exhibition halls at Impact are used for forums, seminars, exhibits and the sale of products ranging from agriculture to industry and services.
The BOI forecasts investment applications in 2012 to reach approximately US$19 billion, with main focuses on bioplastics, processed agriculture, alternative energy, medical tools and para rubber sectors. BOI expects some five million visitors to attend overall, with a daily average of around 310,000 visitors.
Originally scheduled for November 2011, the fair was postponed due to safety concerns of the country’s flooding and will now run Jan. 5-20 this year. The previous edition of the BOI Fair as held in 2000 to stimulate investment confidence after the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
