First DMO in Asia Completes DMAI's Destination Marketing Accreditation Program
The Daejeon International Marketing Enterprise of Daejeon, South Korea, is the first destination marketing organization in Asia to successfully achieve the honor of accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP).
DMAP is an industry-wide accreditation program developed by Destination Marketing Association International to recognize DMOs that meet or exceed industry standards, has accredited 138 DMOs on three continents.
"Congratulations to DIME for successfully achieving DMAP accreditation and joining 137 additional DMOs in demonstrating a commitment to industry excellence," Shelly Green, chair of DMAP and president and CEO of the Durham CVB.
She added, "Their accreditation is particularly significant since, while meeting these standards is challenging for any DMO, it is even more difficult when the application is not in one's native language. They are to be commended for their diligence."
Chae Hoon, CEO of DIME, said the intention of DIME for completing the accreditation program was to be able to raise the profile of Daejeon.
"Through acquiring accreditation through the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program, DIME gains momentum to improve the city's brand internationally and to increase its contribution to development of Daejeon," he added.
To become accredited a DMO is required to provide evidence of compliance with 58 mandatory standards and 30 voluntary standards.
The standards set by DMAP cover a wide variety of topics including governance, finance, management, human resources, technology, visitor services, group services, sales, communications, membership, brand management, destination development, research/market intelligence, innovation, and stakeholder relationships.
The significance of DMAP's brand continues to expand, strengthening destination marketing organizations worldwide," said Michael D. Gehrisch, president and CEO of DMAI.
He added, "This marks a major milestone for the program now that accredited DMOs can be found in more than 70 percent of the United States (35 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico), as well as in Canada, Europe and Asia. With DMOs holding themselves to a higher standard, meeting planners, travelers and local stakeholders alike can rest assured that their business is in good hands."
