Last week, the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) released its 2012 Exhibition Survey results which showed slowing growth in Hong Kong’s exhibition industry following consistent high growth in previous years.
According to HKECIA, there were 107 ‘trade’ and ‘trade and consumer’ exhibitions over 2,000 m2 held in Hong Kong during 2011 – slightly down from the 111 exhibitions held in 2011. The recently concluded edition of plastics and rubber trade show, CHINAPLAS, reached a new show record of 2,969 exhibitors spread over 220,000 m2 of exhibition space. Organised by Hong Kong-based Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., CHINAPLAS was held at the China Import and Export Fair Complex from 20th to 23rd May 2013.

Reed Exhibitions and Expertise Events, an Australian jewellery trade fair organiser, have announced the formation of a new joint venture (JV) company – Fair Events. Expertise Events will reportedly own 51% of the JV with Reed Exhibitions holding the remaining 49% stake.
Expertise Events will be responsible for managing and selling the shows that operate under Fair Events. Gary Fitz-Roy, managing director of Expertise Events, will be solely responsible for the management of Fair Events.

The 2014 edition of Intertextile Beijing Apparel Fabrics will be relocated to Shanghai according to the show’s organiser Messe Frankfurt. To be renamed to Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition, the relocated show will run from 3rd to 5th March at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center. The Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Autumn Editionin October will remain unchanged.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has chosen show management company ConvExx to oversee the SHOT (Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade) Show, which previously was managed by Reed Exhibitions.
Las Vegas-based ConvExx also manages one of the largest shows in the U.S., the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, ranked in the top 10 on the 2012 TSNN Top 250 Trade Show list.

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events has partnered with Reed Travel Exhibitions’ CIBTM, the China Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition to host qualified trade show organizers at its event Sept. 2-4 in Beijing, China.
IAEE also will co-produce educational content at the event.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority selected Los Angeles-based AEG Facilities to manage the Hawai‘i Convention Center, marking the second recent U.S.-based venue contract win for AEG.
AEG Facilities, which manages six overseas convention centers, also scored the new management contract for the Los Angeles Convention Center in June.
SMG holds the current venue management contract at the Hawai‘i Convention Center, which will expire at the end of 2013.
