In its 30th year, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show just keeps growing, with 42,000 buyers from some 140 countries and regions, an 11 percent increase, compared with last year.
The emerging markets saw an even bigger boost in buyer attendance, with an 18-percent increase, compared with last year.

Last week, Facebook revealed a new look for news feed that lets users focus on specific content-type feeds. According to Facebook, the primary purpose of this exercise is to facilitate what Facebook calls a “richer, simpler” user experience over all devices, including desktop.
As part of these updates, photo and videos will now be given more real estate and will be shared with a bigger blurb. Additionally, photos linked to location check-ins will get more visibility and weightage.

Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DESC) has released its latest data on Macau’s MICE industry for the fourth quarter and the full year of 2012. In the fourth quarter, the number of events rose from 272 in 2011 to 294 in 2012 – an 8.1-percent increase. The number of MICE participants also grew 22 percent rising from 508,125 in 2011 to 621,359 last year.
In particular, there were 19 exhibitions held in the fourth quarter last year compared with 16 in 2011. The number of exhibition participants jumped from 479,825 in 2011 to 586,489 last year – a year-on-year… more

The biennial Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS) opened to a record 1,009 exhibitors from 17 countries this year. Co-organised by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, the show is reportedly the largest of its kind in Taiwan and the second-largest in Asia.

UBM’s subsidiary, UBM Asia, announced an agreement has been made with NOVO Mania Limited to acquire the Shanghai urban fashion event, NOVOMANIA. The deal will see UBM owning 60% of UBM Novomania, a newly formed joint venture that will organise NOVOMANIA beginning in 2013. Other financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The natural and organic products industry continues to boom, as evidenced by Penton Media’s record-breaking show, Natural Products Expo West, held March 7-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
More than 63,000 attendees were able to check out the latest natural and organic products ranging from veggie burgers to lip balm being offered by 2,428 exhibitors spread out on a 393,000 net square foot showfloor.
Last year’s show drew approximately 60,000 attendees and 2,000 exhibitors.
