Indonesia to Increase MICE Promotions at Trade Shows

March 5, 2012

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia plans to double the total space rented at trade shows next year by promoting a total of 14 destinations within the country. The ministry will reportedly highlight cities other than the traditional MICE hubs of Jakarta and Bali to promote Indonesia’s overall MICE potential.

The Indonesian ministry participates in around 25 trade shows annually and named the cities of Balikpapan, Lombok, Manado, Palembang and Solo as part of an initiative to divert MICE to other parts of the country. The ministry also claims that infrastructure enhancement plans are in place for several cities, including a new airport and hotels for Lombok, and new convention venues, roads and retail malls in Manado.

Berman Lupis, director of MICE of the ministry, said, “Indonesia’s presence at trade shows this year will showcase mostly Jakarta and Bali, as these arrangements were made much earlier. But our scope will change next year. We want to bring more attention to these cities, which will also help to spread MICE business around the country.”
