Despite a tough global economic climate, Pico Far East Holdings had a successful year, reporting earnings results for year-end Oct. 31 of not only turnover that increased 14.1percent to a record HK$3.5 million, but also profit attributable to owners of the company that increased 29.2 percent to a record HK$248 million. Phoenix-based Viad, the parent company of Las Vegas-based Global Experience Specialists, recently posted fourth-quarter and year-end earnings results, with full-year revenues of $942.4 million, an 11.6-percent increase from the same period during 2010. Fourth-quarter company revenues also saw upticks from $186,965 in 2010 to $197,407 in 2011, a 5.6-percent increase. Exhibitions in Hong Kong continue to draw significant numbers of attendees – the latest being the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt’s Hong Kong International Stationary Fair. The exhibition, which ran Jan. 9-12 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, drew 15,000 visitors, up 4 percent, compared with last year. After a tough couple of years grappling with the downturn in the economy, Hanley Wood Exhibitions’ World of Concrete had a stellar show when it ran Jan. 24-27 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with upticks in exhibit space and attendees, compared with the 2011 event. In an effort to streamline operations and save costs, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced a plan to combine the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau and Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, naming current CVB head Don Welsh president and CEO of the new entity. When the National Association of Home Builders International Builders’ Show opens Jan. 22.24 at the Las Vegas Convention Center next year, it will run one day shorter, from four to three, than it has in the past. In addition, the Produce Marketing Association’s three-day show will be one day less when that event runs Oct. 27-28 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
