The Malaysian state of Penang is planning to set-up its state convention bureau by the end of 2014. The announcement was first made at the Penang International MICE Conference in January 2013, and is currently still dependent on the success of hiring of a consultant to start work in August on formulating its structure and funding.
The bureau will be named Penang International Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PICEB), and the hiring of the consultant requires the approval of the chief minister and the board of directors of Penang Global Tourism. The consultant will be tasked with drawing-up… more

Messe Frankfurt’s Interior Lifestyle Tokyo will see a new show record of 819 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions feature at the Tokyo Big Sight. In its 24th edition this year, Interior Lifestyle Tokyo will showcase a range of high-end interior design products from 606 Japanese exhibitors and 212 overseas exhibitors.
The three-day trade show will be segmented into nine design-themed zones titled: Accent, Everyday, Global, Home, Japan Style, Kitchen Life, Movement, Next, Talents and the Atrium Highlight.

Shanghai’s recently concluded environmental trade show, IE expo, attracted 880 exhibitors and 38,000 visitors to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). The show ran from 20th to 22nd May 2014 covering 50,000 m2 of exhibition space – up 27% over the previous edition.
This year’s IE expo hosted 880 exhibitors from 23 countries, where 33% originated from overseas. IE expo is jointly organised by the Chinese Society for Environmental Science, Messe München International (MMI), MMI-ZM Trade Fairs (Shanghai), and the China Environment Chamber of Commerce.… more

Two good pieces of news came out of San Jose, Calif., last week, with Team San Jose, an economic development organization that also serves as the city’s convention and visitors bureau, being reupped to continue to oversee both the CVB and San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
The San Jose City Council approved new contracts with Team San Jose to not only take care of the center, but also other city venues such as Parkside Hall, South Hall, City National Civic, Center for the Performing Arts, Montgomery Theater and California Theatre.

Reed Huabai Exhibitions, part of Reed Exhibitions Greater China together with the CCAGM (China Commerce Association for General Merchandise), will launch a new edition of the China Daily-Use Article Trade Fair (CDATF) in Wuhan this year.
Prior to this change, the CDATF event was only held in Shanghai. The inaugural Wuhan edition will be held from November 6-8 at Wuhan International Expo Center, following the 108th CDATF to be held in Shanghai at the end of July.

On the second day of the THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2014 show, held May 21-25 in Bangkok at the IMPACT Convention & Exhibition Centre, the Royal Thai Armed Forces staged a coup d'état and overthrew the government after six months of political turmoil had impacted the country.
With martial law and a curfew declared nationwide, the show still stayed open for business and, against all odds, had a successful year.

Cinte Techtextil China, scheduled Sept. 24-26 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, will have nearly 500 exhibitors, an increase compared with the previous edition, as well as an extra hall and a total of 35,000 square meters of exhibition space.
This year marks a change from the last fair held in 2012, with the show no longer being held concurrently with Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics.
According to Wendy Wen, senior general manager of fair co-organiser Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, this standalone version will be more beneficial for participants.
