NASDAQ-listed Global Sources recently released its results for the quarter ended 31st March 2011. Revenues were $37.5 million, up 5.6 percent, compared with the $35.5 million recorded in the same quarter in 2010. Net income in the period was $3.5 million – a year-on-year decrease of 4.3 percent from $3.7 million in 2010. Diluted earnings per share in the quarter were $0.10.

The biannual China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), organized by the China Foreign Trade Centre and Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), concluded with a reported 207,000 international visitors - a 5.8-percent increase, compared with more than 2010, setting a new record high. According to the organiser, the fair reportedly facilitated $36.8 billion worth of trade deals.
Organisers claimed trade with the Middle East dropped 11 percent in terms of volume due to the political unrest in that region.

Global Sources has formed a new partnership in order to launch Machinery & Industrial Supplies Fair at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. The event will be Global Sources first exhibition aimed at serving the Indian domestic market.
It will be co-hosted by Infocom Network Ltd., the owner and operator of Tradeindia.com and will be collocated with the Mumbai edition of the China Sourcing Fairs running from Nov. 23-25.

MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) Ltd., a MCH Group subsidiary, announced it will acquire a 60-percent stake in Asian Art Fairs Limited, the organizer of the Hong Kong International Art Fair (ART HK). The deal will be completed July 1, and the MCH Group has the option of acquiring the remaining 40 percent shares in Asian Art Fairs Limited in 2014. No financial details were disclosed.

In April, nine exhibitions focusing on various industries were held and thousands of exhibitors and visitors gathered for business and networking at China’s Zhengzhou International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

It’s a busy time at South Korea’s BEXCO, the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center, with visits by international inspection teams of large conventions that are scheduled to be held there.

The 109th edition of the China Import and Export Fair – also known as the Canton Fair – recently concluded its first session that ran April 15-19, with reported transactions worth more than $23 billion, according to the organiser.
