More than 530 exhibitors from 20-plus countries and regions, a new exhibitor record, will take part in the 23rd edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair July 18-24 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hong Kong-listed Pico Far East Holdings has announced interim results for the six months ended 30th April 2012. The company’s turnover was US$233 million, an increase of 30 percednt, compared with the same period in 2011. Profit attributable to owners of the company in the period was US$12 million, a growth of 13 percdent year-on-year. The Philippine Association of Convention/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers (PACEOS) announced the launch of a new advanced MICE course in a bid to improve the quality and competence of local industry players. Scheduled to run Aug. 16-17 this year, the course will be held at the SMX Convention Center in Manila. The programme will include training led by industry experts provided by PACEOS’ learning division – the Philippine MICE Academy. UBM live, a subsidiary of UBM plc., reported a record attendance of 14,473 attendees at its Japanese Pharma Portfolio of events this year – an increase of 17 percent, compared with 2010. The collection of events were held at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center March 21-23 and included CPhI Japan, ICSE Japan, P-MEC Japan and the new Pharmatec Japan. Exhibition organiser Tarsus Group will launch a new show, Label Summit Indonesia 2013, under its Labelexpo Global Series brand. The event will serve the growing print and packaging industry in Indonesia and South East Asia, focusing on label and packaging printing converters/printers, brand owners and designers. Two suppliers – the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Shepard Exposition Services – both scored lucrative events contracts. Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2012 will take place July 8-12 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. An estimated 15,000 attendees representing technology companies in 156 countries will take part in the event, according to show organizers. Trade show veteran Kevin O’Keefe has taken a new post at GLM as senior vice president, leaving his position at UBM Canon Communications at which he oversaw several 2011 TSNN Top 250 shows, such as Medical Design & Manufacturing West, East and Midwest, as well as other shows in the UBM Canon portfolio. Northstar Travel Media, a business-to-business media company serving the travel industry, has gone from one private equity owner – BV Investment Partners – to another, Wicks Group, which purchased the company for an undisclosed sum.  “We are very impressed with the growth of Northstar Travel Media over the last few years during challenging economic conditions,” said Dan Kortick, a managing partner at Wicks. Germany’s Messe Frankfurt shrugged off the economic doldrums plaguing several countries in Europe and posted its best sales year on record last year driven by growth in group and foreign sales.
